The Power of
Dreaming!
New study indicates sleeping after learning
improves recall of information.
A new study indicates that getting some sleep after learning
something new is associated with better memory--or at least
better recall of information learned.
The study was published in a recent journal Current
Biology.
Researchers concluded that individuals who sleep after
learning something perform better afterwards. This
is particularly true if they've dreamt about what they had
learned.
Researchers took 99 students and asked them to
visually sort through a 3-dimensional maze in order to find a
tree at some point in the maze.
Then half napped while others remained awake. They
were later asked to find the tree again upon retest of looking
through the maze.
The results demonstrate those that napped did better at
finding the tree more quickly and easily upon retest.
They then conclude that it may be advantageous to study
before bed or nap after learning something new if one is to
improve memory or recall of what one is learning.
So, what will you dream about tonight....
