Issue 3 in Ohio
Is is for us?
I feel a compelling duty to talk about this issue because
there's a lot of propaganda going around that looks as if it's
going to catch Ohioans with their pants down.
I know we are in the middle of a recession and that jobs in
Ohio aren't plentiful.
But casino jobs are not REAL jobs.
They WILL take jobs from local small business owners.
Please take 6 minutes and watch this video on

Folks, I know we're all hurtin' right now. But I
believe we have to take a look at the LONG TERM moral, ethical
and economic implications of having the casino industry in our
home state.
I was at Seneca two months ago. The town is
decrepid around the casino. It is NOT a place to call
home, and is not a place of bustling commerce. It is only
a tourist trap.
I lived in New Jersey for two years and went to Atlantic
City a few times. It IS run down and is not a place
commerce.
I was in Las Vegas two weeks ago. While the strip is
fantastic and Vegas is adult-style Disneyland, there is a dark
side to the town. Personal bankruptcy, divorce, and
alcoholism rates are amongst the highest in the country
there.
Casinos are fun. No doubt. They're great because
you don't have phones, TV, fax machines, pagers or
bosses demanding your attention...and you don't have a
schedule to follow. They are a haven for stressed out or
lonely/bored adults who've got a few bucks to blow.
There in lies the trap.
Casinos don't get built on winners money.
The exist because of nice people (like us MidWesterners) who
willingly part with their hard-earned money in order to
escape the doldrums of a less-than-spectacular life in the
MidWest without oceans and beaches and skyscrapers.
Don't be fooled by the commercials.
One year ago the F.O.P. was AGAINST casinos.
What made them change their tune?
First. It's the F.O.P. of Columbus and Cincinnati
running those ads, not Youngstown.
Second. Law enforcement benefits on many levels from
casino gambling. Sales tax will go to county coffers, of
which law enforcement gets a piece. Also, casinos will
give cops a 2nd job in which to moonlight (potentially) and
create strategic alliances with law enforcement agency (more
money for them). Also, crime is actually DOWN over 10
years. Casinos may bring with it the type of scenarios
seen in the video on TruthPac.
Folks. I enjoy a little bit of gaming. But
I sense that the industry is not what our state needs.
We need real jobs that will endure and bring money INTO the
state.
Just because the government is currently gambling on our
future doesn't mean that we should as well.
