Health Tip:
Are You Disposed to the Holiday Blues?
Risk factors for holiday depression
Just as the Holidays draw near, most people
find reason for excitement...whether it be food, fun, kids,
sharing, or just that good old holiday cheer.
However, some don't experience that joy.
Our friends to the north at the Cleveland
Clinic posted some data on Holiday season
depressiveness.
The following may be risk factors for the
holiday depressiveness felt by some:
- Restimulation of family problems or painful
memories associated with the Holidays.
- Expecting that you should feel happy because it is the
'Season to Be Jolly'.
- Coping with the loss of a loved one, or spending
the holidays away from friends and family.
- Dwelling on recent setbacks or negatives, or sustaining
negative beliefs and attitudes from earlier in the
year.
- Coping with changes in the family, such as divorce
or death.
- Drinking too much alcohol during the holidays. (Really,
I thought this was a good thing?)
Whatever your persuasion or wherever life has taken you or
thrown at you this year--good or bad--we at RPT wish you the
very best for Christmas and the entire Holiday season.
